Parts of Manitoba under thunderstorm watch
Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for July 21, 2025. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued severe thunderstorm watches for the Manitoba Interlake region on Monday afternoon. According to the weather agency, a 'trough of low pressure' in the area could lead to the development of severe thunderstorms, as well as strong winds, large hail and heavy rain. ECCC adds that some of these thunderstorms may move eastward. If this happens, the severe thunderstorm warnings will expand to this area. The thunderstorm threat is expected to diminish by Monday evening. ECCC reminds Manitobans that 'when thunder roars, go indoors.' It notes that lightning can be deadly, heavy rain can cause flash flooding, and strong winds and hail can lead to significant damage. The watches are in place in several communities including Gimli, Selkirk, Winnipeg Beach and Grand Rapids.

Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Ottawa-Gatineau
Environment Canada (EC) has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for most of Eastern Ontario and parts of Western Quebec, including the Ottawa-Gatineau region. The watch was issued Sunday morning to warn that hazardous thunderstorms may develop in the afternoon and early evening. Toonie-sized hail, heavy downpours and wind gusts up to 100 km/h are possible, EC wrote. In Ontario, the watch stretches south to Cornwall and Kingston, and west to parts of Renfrew County. In Quebec, the watch includes Gatineau and communities to the north-east. It comes as much of the region is also experiencing a lengthy heat warning which began late Friday morning. The agency advises the public to stay indoors and take cover in a basement where possible during threatening weather, and notes strong winds can damage trees or buildings and overturn vehicles. EC issues a severe thunderstorm watch when conditions are favourable for a storm to develop. A warning is issued when there is evidence that a thunderstorm is imminent or occurring.
